Your favorite romcom anime is finally announced for Rent-A-Girlfriend season 3. The twelfth episode of Rent-A-Girlfriend season 2 was released on September 16 and marked the show’s official conclusion. For those who have loved getting a new episode each week, it would have been a sad day. However, there is no cause for celebration because the show has already been given the go-ahead for a third season.

Since the second season’s announcement coincided with the showing of the first season’s final episode, fans were already expecting positive news. The series manga is currently in its 28th volume, thus there is a lot of source material for the authors to cover.

There is also no justification for delaying the announcement of a second season given the popularity of the show. It appears that the creators once again lived up to everyone’s expectations.

The news about Rent-A-Girlfriend season 3 came from the official Twitter account of the series, and a chibi-style video was also released on the official YouTube channel of DMM Pictures to commemorate the announcement. The video features the four main rental girls from the series, Chizuru Mizuhara, Ruka Sharashina, Sumi Sukarasawa, and Mami Namani.

Everything We Know So Far

Rent-A-Girlfriend is based on Reiji Miyajima’s manga of the same name, which has the Japanese title Kanojo, Okarishimasu (translated into Romaji). The manga has been running since July 12, 2017, and as of September 2022, there were 28 volumes collected, with more on the way.

Season One was based, of course, on the initial volumes and has adapted the first six volumes of the manga, ending with the first chapter of Volume 7, where the second season continued. The second season continued with the story up to the conclusion of Volume 12, which is where the season left the characters. Season three is expected to start with Volume 13 of the manga.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 Possible Release Date (Coming Soon)

Now, not much has been revealed about the third installment, but a special event will take place in March where the creators will reveal more information. Based on the last seasons, TMS Entertainment will return as the animation studio, and we can expect season 3 to return in fall 2023 or early 2024.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 Cast & Characters

There will be, of course, some additions, more or less important, but seeing how it’s a slice-of-life anime series, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season three. Here, we are going to bring you a list of the main characters from seasons one and two, as it is expected that the voice actors will reprise their roles in the upcoming season:

Kazuya Kinoshita: is voiced by Shun Horie. Following a difficult breakup with his lover Mami, college student Kazuya decides to get a girlfriend for hire. He soon finds himself in predicaments where he must continue praising Chizuru in order to maintain his good standing with his family and friends. Later, he starts to harbor love sentiments for Chizuru.

Chizuru Mizuhara is voiced by Sora Amamiya. She is a student who secretly works for the Diamond Corporation as a hired girlfriend. She is ecstatic about her excellent service grades but becomes irate and combative when Kazuya humiliates her by giving her a poor grade.

She assumes her grandmother’s last name at school and dresses nerdily with braided pigtails and towering spectacles. Chizuru and Kazuya swiftly come to the realization that they share an apartment building level and are our neighbors.

She continues to let Kazuya hire her services in order to help her grandmother and help her grow as a person. The reason that made him get into the girlfriend rental business is to gain experience in role-playing and to become an actress.

Mami Nanami is voiced by Aoi Yūki. She is Kazuya’s ex-girlfriend. She has short blonde hair. She appears to be outwardly friendly, but harbors jealous and possessive feelings that sometimes frighten her friends. She is shocked and suspicious that Kazuya found another girlfriend so soon after she dumped him.

Ruka Sarashina is voiced by Nao Tōyama. She is a girl who is introduced as the girlfriend of a friend of Kazuya, but is also revealed to be a girlfriend for hire working for another company. She wears a ribbon headband.

She genuinely wants to date Kazuya after seeing how kindly and passionately he treats Chizuru and her. She has a health condition causing her to have a low heart rate which she needs to watch out for, and Kazuya is the first boy to have his heart rate up.

Sumi Sakurasawa is voiced by Rie Takahashi. She is a girl who also works as a girlfriend for rent in the same company as Chizuru. She is in her first year of college and is a relative newcomer to the industry.

She has pink hair with a braided streak on one side. She has a shy personality, and through Chizuru’s encouragement, she dates Kazuya in order to improve her skills as a girlfriend-for-hire, later developing feelings for him.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 Expected Plot (Spoilers)

The overall plot of Rent-A-Girlfriend is rather simple and follows the everyday situations of students Kazuya Kinoshita and Chizuru Mizuhara. It is a slice-of-life anime with elements of romance and comedy, so you can assume what the show is going to be about. The show is pretty grounded and based mostly on real-life situations, although with your classic anime twist.

Kazuya Kinoshita is a college student but he feels lonely after his girlfriend dumps him for another when they have been dating for a month. To get out of his melancholy, he then decides to use girlfriend rental services using Diamond, a trending application in Japan. He thus meets Chizuru Mizuhara, and at first sight, this “girlfriend for rent” with a beautiful face and perfect behavior appears as the ideal girlfriend that he always dreamed of.

However because she seems to be too perfect and unrealistic, he rehires her services this time to take out all his frustration and reject her, but Chizuru berates him for this and turns out to be meaner than he expected.

Nevertheless, in the midst of their quarrel, Kazuya learns that his grandmother Nagomi passed out and had to be hospitalized. Visiting her in the hospital, he gets pretentious by introducing Chizuru as his girlfriend.

Kazuya continues to hire Chizuru’s services in order to keep up appearances with his family and friends, but things get complicated when they discover that they are next-door neighbors and attend the same college. Later, other girls from the girlfriend rental world also join in dating and show interest in Kazuya.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 Ending Explained (Review)

The second season of Rent-A-Girlfriend consisted of 12 episodes as well and it adapted volumes seven through twelve of the manga. The season actually ended on the “border” between Volumes 12 and 13, so we expect Season 3 to continue where Season 2 left off. The second season was a pretty decent and precise adaptation of the manga as well, with no filler content, which is what we’re expecting from season three as well.

The second season ended with Mizuhara finally accepting Kazuya’s help in making the indie movie she wants. This was a big moment for the two as it will allow them to bond even more and deepen their relationship in the upcoming season while facing other real-life challenges that lie in front of them. The third season is going to explore the consequences of these events.
