Pop Team Epic also known as Poputepipikku in Japanese is a comedy anime adapted from manga series written and illustrated by Bkub Okawa and the production of new chapters is done to date.

Pop Team Epic will soon be returning for a second season, and has finally set a release window for the anime’s big return! Bkub Okawa’s original gag manga went on to debut with one of the most memorable anime adaptations released in the last few years. Not many fans had an idea as to what to expect from the anime when it premiered in the Winter 2018 anime schedule, and it went on to befuddle fans even more. Now the series is finally returning with the second season of new episodes scheduled to make their debut later this year.

Thankfully, the recently announced second season is well on its way. Though a specific release date has yet to be announced, there is still something to consider when it comes to the season’s plot and characters. With that being said, here is what we know so far about “Pop Team Epic” Season 2.

Pop Team Epic season 2 Release Date

First announced to be in the works with a scheduled release sometime this year, Pop Team Epic released a special new teaser trailer for the second season during AnimeJapan 2022 that confirmed that the second season will be hitting this October as part of the Fall 2022 anime schedule.

While there has yet to be any concrete release date for the new season just yet, the new teaser trailer for the season brings back voice actor Shota Aoi as the time traveler he had made a cameo as during the first season’s finale.

Pop Team Epic Season 2 Plot

Much like the characters of Pop Team Epic, there isn’t too much in the way of the plot. In fact, there is even less, because the show’s only real consistent elements are Popuko and Pipimi. The two go on journeys, sure, but if you expect those journeys to last more than a few minutes on average then you’re out of luck. True to its four-panel comic roots, each segment of the show generally runs long enough to get a joke or two out before moving on to the next nonsensical thing.

Another odd facet of the bizarre anime series, however, is that each episode essentially repeats itself. In truth, the writers and animators only make about half an episode’s worth of content per episode. The runtime of the anime is then doubled by having two distinct vocal performances for each repetition.

The first half of the show might have Popuko and Pipimi voiced by a pair of female voice actresses, while the second half repeats all of the same gags with an over-the-top male performance. This is true in both the sub and dub of the show and has become its longest-running gag. It’s unknown whether the creators intend to reuse this idea for Season 2 when it releases in the coming year.

Pop Team Epic Season 2 Characters

It’s yet to be revealed what kind of voice talent, production staff, or even studio is currently attached to the second season as of this writing. If the first season is anything to go by, fans should be expecting the unexpected here as there are still many ways the new episodes can surprise fans. This might even include some voice cast shake-ups, story shake-ups, and more. But if you wanted to see what the series has to offer, there are plenty of ways to do so.

  • Tohru Adachi voiced by Pipimi
  • Shunsuke Itakura voiced by Popuko
  • Yui Ogura voiced by Sosogu Hoshifuru
  • Tomoko Natsukawa voiced by Ittezon Chieko
