Kakegurui, also known as Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler, is a 2017 TV anime that aired 12 episodes. It’s a manga adaptation made into an anime series. The manga was written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tooru Naomura.
The first season of the show premiered on July 1st and ended on September 23rd. This corresponds to one season in 2017, namely the summer of 2017. Hayashi Yuuichirou directed the Netflix anime, which was animated by Studio MAPPA.
Kakegurui is an anime series that follows the fortunes of students at Hyakkou Private Academy, an elite institution that, instead of ranking their students based on academic ability or even performance in sports, encourages them to refine their skills at the gambling. The worst players suffer pretty deep humiliations, until transfer student and compulsive gambler Yumeko Jabami enters the scene The second season, which was called “Kakegurui xx,” aired in 2019 — which means it’s about time for a third season to debut now that it’s been a few years. Right?
Fans have been waiting for a renewal of Kakegurui for a long time, even allowing for production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it hasn’t happened yet. Here’s what we know so far about a new potential set of episodes for this popular shonen anime.
There has been a sale of more than 15,000 copies. DVD/Blu-Ray discs contribute to around 15-20% of the revenue for an anime series. This may sound un-profitable and also made many animes a failure.
Anime Series can promote a lot of products making it a booming industry. Some of the products which were sold as merchandise were:
Some of the figures are beautiful like this Naruto Men T-Shirt, and the One Piece Zoro Shirt, Men and Women Also, check out this Gaming Mouse Pad, Maid Sama Posters one since it looks the best.
There is also plenty of My Hero Academia Backpack, Hoodies, Kaicho wa Maid Sama Misaki Ayuzawa Cosplay Costume, and even cool stuff like this Keychain.
Without a solid renewal announcement either from anime studio Mappa or distributor Netflix, which is licensed to stream the series outside of Japan, there’s no way of knowing if Kakegurui is coming back for Season 3.
Renewals are often based on popularity as well as how much source material there is. Kakegurui is based on a Japanese manga series written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tooru Naomura, which now makes up 14 volumes of 82 chapters (via Fandom).
There are some differences between manga and anime, but for the most part, the anime has covered around 56 episodes. That means there’s almost enough for one more season. The first season actually ended on an original episode, and the end of the second season also diverged (in both cases, a conclusion of sorts was created, possibly in case the show wasn’t renewed). If that might happen again, there would definitely be three seasons’ worth of material left.
However, it’s uncertain how popular the series actually is. Netflix does not release viewing numbers to the public (and has been making some high-profile cancellations lately). And good reviews and ratings don’t necessarily reflect actual statistics when it comes to who and how many people are watching. Should Mappa announce a renewal today, the show would still have to go through the process of production, meaning we’d have to wait a while longer for it to premiere.
The final episode of Kakegurui season 2 aired on March 31, 2019, and there has been no official word on season 3 since then.
We are now in the year 2022, and the first two seasons were released two years apart. So, according to that calculation, the third season should have been released in 2021, but it wasn’t.
Kakegurui is a Netflix anime produced by MAPPA, but none of these organizations has issued an official comment. We’ll investigate all of the possible reasons for a sequel’s occurrence or cancellation.
Kakegurui, on the other hand, hasn’t been fully canceled. So, for the time being, we’ll look at each of the major aspects separately. Let’s get started! Neither the director nor the producer has responded. This means we’ll have to guess a solution. The answer to whether or not Kakegurui will return for a third season. And that is precisely what we will do here.
Now let’s quickly take a look at the characters that would make a reappearance in the next season of Kakegurui.
- Yumeko Jabami is the central character of this series. She is the main gambler in that academy. She was a transfer student and took the school by the wind. Saori Hayami portrayed this character in the Japanese series and Erika Harlacher on Netflix.
- Miyuki Sawashiro plays Kirari Momobami in Japanese, and on Netflix, the character is played by Michelle Ruff.
- Mary Saotome portrays her character as Minami Tanaka in Japanese, and on Netflix, it is played by Kira Buckland.
- Ryota Suzui will be playing the character of Tatsuya Tokutake in Japanese, and on Netflix, Griffin Burns will play.
- Itsuki Sumeragi portrays the character of Yūki Wakai in Japanese, and Erica Mendez Cat plays the character on Netflix.
- Yuriko Nishinotōin is played by Karin Nanami in the Japanese language, while on Netflix, the character is played by Cristina Vee.
- Midari Ikishima showcases the character of Mariya Ise in the Japanese language, and on Netflix, it is played by Sarah Anne Williams.
- Yumemi Yumemite plays by Yū Serizawa in Japanese and Faye Mata on Netflix.
- Kaede Manyūda plays the character of Tomokazu Sugita in Japanese and Chris Niosi on Netflix.
- Runa Yomozuki is playing Mayu Udono in Japanese and Kayli Mills on Netflix.
- Sayaka Igarashi will be played by Ayaka Fukuhara in Japanese and Erica Lindbeck on Netflix.
- Miloslava Honebami portrays the character of Mitsuki Saiga in Japanese, and on Netflix, Allegra Clark plays it.
Because Rei Batsubami was created just for the anime, Season 2 of Kakegurui concluded on a filler. Fans were kept anxious even after the grand conclusion because the main plot regarding the election was still unfinished.
Season 3 of Kakegurui might pick up where Season 2 left off with the election arc, or it could go right into the war with the Momobami sisters.
The ending of Kakegurui would be crucial for the opening of the next season. If we remember correctly, the Momobami family got a surprise from Rei and they ended up in a gamble as expected. Yumeko and Rei had the final gamble and Rei lost it with Yumeko winning a lot of votes.
Later on, Rei was probably released from “slavery” and Yumeko distributed all her collected votes. That’s how the story came to an end in the previous season. As you can see, there is a lot of room for this series to catch up again with its sequel. No need to worry for us.
Since there has been no official announcement of the renewal for a third season, there has been no chance of a trailer as of now. I’m going to share the official trailer of season one that might help you to imagine something about season 1 If any new updates happen, we’ll let you know.
