Elfen Lied is one of the edgiest and most violent anime series ever made, but it has left a great legacy and even inspired recent hit shows. The series follows Lucy, a newly mutated species called Diclonius, who has escaped the facility built for experimentation.

While wreaking havoc outside, Lucy got injured. As a result, she developed a child-like persona. Elfen Lied is based on a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto. The series ended in a cliffhanger. However, more than a decade and a half has already passed, and we still don’t have season 2 news. So what are the odds of seeing Elfen Lied Season 2?

Elfen Lied is an anime series produced by Arms Corporation and was made based on Lynn Okamoto’s seinen manga series and premiered while the manga was still in publication. The anime follows the source material through the first 7 volumes, with several alterations to the story, and concludes with an exclusive ending. However, ever since then, the fans have been asking for Elfen Lied Season 2.

In an interview, director Mamoru Kanbe expressed his disappointment in having to ‘condense’ to story into 13 episodes and felt that more was needed to include significant plot details that would have made the series more emotive.

Elfen Lied Season 2 Is Canceled?

Eighteen years have passed, but Arms Corporation still has not renewed the anime series for season 2. The anime isn’t officially canceled either, so we are now left hanging for such a long time.

Arms Corporation did a splendid job in producing the anime. It’s a shame that they did not come up with a follow-up season immediately.

Why Is Elfen Lied Season 2 Still Not Confirmed?

One of the possible reasons why the anime is not renewed is that the studio behind the anime filed for bankruptcy back on July 22, 2020. The studio closed the following month, on August 4, 2020. Arms Corporation was initially known as Dandelion. They later changed its name to Triple X. However, they are no longer operating following the bankruptcy.

The only hope for Elfen Lied to return is to get picked up by another studio like Netflix.

Another possible reason why the anime isn’t renewed is the lack of source material. The manga, on which the show is based, finished serialization in August 2005. We know that anime series are often created to drive more sales to the manga. With no more manga to sell, the interest in anime could simply die.

The anime was first presented when the manga was as yet in distribution, so don’t anticipate that the plot of the show should be equivalent to that of the manga. It just follows 7 volumes of the manga, with numerous changes made to that, and the closure of the anime is completely elite. The arrangement gets going with the presentation of the fundamental hero, Lucy whose character later motivated the formation of Eleven from ‘More peculiar Things’.

Lucy is depicted as a totally different and hereditarily progressed variety of humans which has a couple of fallen angel horns swelling off of her mind and she can utilize supernatural hands that have a scope of 2 meters.
